Remote doctors appointment

A huge amount has changed during the pandemic, from our day-to-day routine to how and where we work. Whilst we all want to get back to our pre-pandemic lives, there are also plenty of these changes that will be here to stay.

One of these notable changes is in how we access GP services.  Since the start of the pandemic, our NHS GP’s have changed their process of seeing patients, in most cases, we now have a telephone conversation before you can see the GP face to face, appointments are very desirable, and many NHS doctors surgeries require you to call in an allotted time frame.

There has been a changing landscape with that insurers have also seen is a huge increase in customers accessing remote or virtual GP services. The Exeter has confirmed that in 2020 they saw a 112% year on year increase in usage of this service by their members.

These statistic shows a huge shift in mentality by western society, now wanting fast and safe GP appointments at the end of their smartphone or laptop.  Technology is now at the forefront of many practices from business to social connection, time management has been at the forefront of people’s minds and in a time-pressured world how time can be managed to benefit an average individual’s lives.

As lockdowns and restrictions are lifted and there is more normality, lives become more restrictive. However, health is somewhat forgotten. The balance of a healthy lifestyle does not include GP’s due to day to day, time pressures.

Furthermore, to have a well-rounded view on health, remote access GP’s will benefit the overall time-restricted lifestyle of the western world. This access is readily available with many private medical insurances, but many may not be aware that it is already included, so it is important that cover is thoroughly examined to ensure that there are no services that are not being used.

What is a virtual GP service?

A virtual GP service is in essence a doctor at the end of your smartphone or laptop. You will get a doctor’s appointment at a time that suits you. You can take this in the car, at home or, wherever is convenient. The doctor will be able to give you impartial advice on your medical conditions, prescribe medication and even give you an open referral letter to see a consultant all without leaving your home.

How do I access a virtual GP service?

Within your documents, you will be given information about who your virtual GP service is with.  You will then be able to access this online or on an app. Once you are in you can check appointment times and availability, when you have selected one that suits you will get a video call at the time you have selected.  It is simple and time-efficient.
